For generations people have come to St Albans for marriage. Getting married in church has been important to many of them because it allows a couple to make their promises to each other in the sight of God and to ask for God’s blessing on their future lives.
Getting married is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. For many people it is the most important day of their life. There are all sorts of decisions to be made about how that marriage is to be celebrated, including where to get married.

What are the legal requirements for getting married at St Albans?
If you live in our parish you must have your banns read out in church for three Sundays during the three months before the wedding. If you do not live in the parish but would still like to get married at St Alban’s there are special rules, so you will need to talk to Ken.
One or both of us are divorced. Can we get married at St Albans?
The marriage service makes it clear that marriage is for life. We recognise that sometimes things can go wrong despite our best efforts and intentions. At St Alban’s we wish to show care for those who honestly want to try again. Please speak to Ken if you are divorced and would like to get married at St Albans.

There may be a time when you want to come to church and renew your vows. You can have this kind of service even if you weren’t originally married in church.
